The Basics
Character's full name: Marianne Enjolras
Age: 18
Canon, Original Canon, or Original?: Original Canon
Height: 140 cm
Body type: Slim, graceful
Eye colour: Hazel, with flecks of golden brown giving them sweetness, but appear darker when angry and annoyed.
General Appearance: A young woman trapped in a world where men rule, women are meant to be ornaments, and she doesn't like it. This shows in the fact that she dresses as manly as possible, even though she tends to wear dresses as the norm. She used to wear boys clothes when she was a child, and when she first came to Paris she masqueraded as a boy until she was discovered.
Wardrobe: Red, white, black and gold. Pretty much a female version of whatever musical!Enjolras wears.
Faceclaim: She's mainly modelled on myself, but if I had to put a name to her, it would be Anna O'Byrne or Emma Watson.
The Past
Family and Friends: She keeps herself to herself mainly, but is good friends with Combeferre. Her passion for the cause and his logic make them a strong team. Her family history is quite strange. Her mother died in suspicious circumstances after she supported Marianne's dream of studying. Her father then married again to a woman with two twin sons, both older than Marianne by a couple of years (19/20). They wanted to make her a bourgeois china doll while her brothers (Enjolras') went off to Paris.
History: Born in November 1814. Father Marcelin Enjolras, Mother Marie Enjolras nee Vigue. Mother died in suspicious circumstances in 1822 (Murdered by Marcelin, but he got away with the crime, so Marie's death is a mystery to her). Marie died because Marianne made it clear from 7 years old that she wanted to study to become a lawyer and help France free herself from oppression. Her mother encouraged this, enraging her father, causing him to murder her. Marianne's father then married again to a woman with two twin sons a few months after the murder case was dropped to an unknown cause of death. Marianne was still 8 when they married. She got on well with the twins (Bastian and Benjamin), and they accepted her even when she told them her dreams. Marcelin and his new wife wanted to make Marianne the perfect woman for someone high in the Kings favour, advancing the name of Enjolras, and stifling Marianne's freedom and dreams at the same time. When Bastian and Benjamin leave to go and study in Paris, Marianne has a fight with her father when he tells her she's engaged and due to be married to someone high in the King's favour in 4 days time. She refuses and he locks her in her room until she either accepts it, or is forced to because the wedding day came first. She packs her things, takes some of Bastian and Benjamin's old clothes, dressing as a boy, stuffing her hair into a cap (she's too vain to cut it short) and running away to Paris. She manages to trick the Paris university that she is an intelligent young man who wishes to study law. However, she soon runs into trouble when several of her course mates notice her curves, as much as she tried to hide them. Her brothers, who were in on the plan, spoke up for her to the principal of the university, allowing her to continue studying there (the name of Enjolras had some sway) on the condition that she didn't hide who she was any longer. Marianne contented herself with this and tried to conform. She carried on getting involved with the twins politics, eventually becoming a high-profile member of Les Amis d'ABC along with the two of them. She fights for the cause, and keeps her purity until France is free, or the right man comes along who can give her what she wishes.
Personality
General Personality: As she's been suppressed for most of her life, she can sometimes come across as quiet when people first meet her, but in conversation she comes across and intelligent and fiery, dedicated to the Cause. She's got a short temper and it doesn't take much for her to lose it. Because of her youth and upbringing, she doesn't really understand bawdy jokes, and is quite nieave. She doesn't like showing emotion, so she tends to hide under a stony indifference as much as possible. Because of this, she can come across cold and unfeeling, but she's really quite emotional and fragile. It doesn't take much to upset her, but she'll try her hardest to hide her true feelings until there is no one about except maybe her brothers. She's rarely happy, it's almost like she's forgotten how to be happy because there has been so little joy in her life. Now she's in Paris doing what she loves and fighting for what she believes in, she could dare to try and be happy, but it takes a special kind of person to make her happiness come out of the dark hole.
Weaknesses: Very short tempered, takes offence easily, quite nieave. Can be quite vain.
Strength: Passionate, determined and extremely loyal. She'd rather die than give any information about the Cause, her brothers and the Amis to anyone in authority.
Fears: Being forced to conform to be a conventional Parisian 19th century woman, losing her brothers whom she looks up to and almost thinks of them as her protectors when her gender causes barriers to be formed and her own happiness. She's scared of being happy because it could cause her to reveal more than she wants to. Knowledge is power, and she doesn't want anyone to have power over her.
Dreams and Goals: To set France free from tyrannical leaders and ensure women are as valued as men.

Marianne looked around nervously as she stepped out of her home. Javert had been too inquisitive for her liking recently. Questions had started to be asked around the university, where she was unique in being the only female student. It was quite common knowledge that she had run away from home to escape an arranged marriage, and the fact that her brothers hadn't been too careful recently caused the Police to be nervous. Other revolutionary supporters had told her to be careful, and safe houses where they were storing weapons and ammunition had been under observation. She felt a hand on her shoulder and, without turning around, she spoke.
"Good day. If you'll excuse me..."
