You may be asking yourself, 'Well, what the heck is roleplay?!' Well, I'm here to give you the basic jist of it, and terms. Roleplay is when you play a character, controlling their actions, moves, and words. You can develop your character, it doesn't always have to go with the story plot! It's very fun, and for those who are new to roleplay, I hope you have fun! Now, for the terms!
RP: When somebody says something like, 'I love to RP', they're just abbreviating 'roleplay'. So, RP= Roleplay.
RL: If you hear somebody say, 'Yeah, just in RL though.' They're abbreviating 'Real life'. So, RL=Real life.
OOC: When somebody says this, it stands for 'Out Of Character'.
IC: If somebody says this, it stands for 'In Character'.
[], //, OOC:, {}, (), ETC. These are symbols that resemble OOC. So if we're in a thread, and below my reply I say, [ I have to go, sorry! ] , This means I am speaking OOC.
GOD MODDING: We typically don't use this on this roleplay website, but god modding is when somebody controls another character's actions. Such as if Eponine said, "Eponine was dragged down the hall by Thénardier." Before Thenardier even began to do so.
RECON: It's not a very common term, but recon is when somebody refreshes their character, or basically erases all of their past. It's as if they're making a new character all over again.
POWERPLAYING: Powerplaying is when you, as the typist, may know something about a certain character or situation, but your character does not. So unless your character is a psychic, they can not know about this.
TYPIST: The typist is you, the person controlling the character. Pretty self-explanatory.
MARY SUE'S AND GARY STU'S: These are people that type practically perfect... It should really just be called a Mary Poppins. Or, perhaps somebody who has a lot of flaws, and almost nothing but flaws in their writing and character developing skills.
CANON CHARACTER: A character that came from an original story plot. In this case, a character directly from Les Miz.
ORIGINAL CANON CHARACTER: A very minor character that came from an original story plot.
ORIGINAL CHARACTER: A character that in no way came from an original story plot. It is a character that has never been used before, and is completely...Well, original!
PLAYBY/FACECLAIM: This is the model that you use for you character. Example... If I made a Ramin!Enjolras, Ramin Karimloo would be my playby/faceclaim.
OPEN: This means that anyone can join the thread being posted, such as a 25th anniversary Eponine joining in on a thread that a 10th anniversary Marius started.
TAGGING: This is when you put a character's name inside parenthesis next to the title of the thread that you are starting. This means that the thread is intended for only that/those character(s) to reply.
