[glow=red,2,300]THREAD FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT LES MISÉRABLES IS.[/glow]
So, you don't know what Les Miz is? Well, let me tell you...with this Wikipedia link!
Just kidding. This is all coming from the good ol' noggin! Promise I'm not stealing from any Wiki sources, this is all off of the top of my head.
Les Misérables (French for 'The Miserables Ones') has not only been a book, but it's been made into many movie versions, and still hasn't stopped it's long musical run since it began in 1985 over in France. Les Miz was written by Victor Hugo in 1862, who was a very well known writer. Les Miz circles around a man named Jean Valjean who was released from prison in 1815 after staying in the prison for 19 years. His original sentence was 5 years, for stealing a loaf of bread for his sister's son, and his starving family. The remaining 15 years that had been added on was for trying to escape multiple times. He is let out on parole by Inspector Javert. Once Valjean is let free, he tries to become acquantances with the world, but all it spat back was hatred. He decides to live a new life after he had almost gotten in trouble for stealing silver from The Bishop of Digne, who had taken care of him for the night. The Bishop tells the officers who try to arrest Jean Valjean that he had given JVJ the silver, and then gave him candle stick holders as well.
Afer JVJ creates his new life in Montreuil-sur-Mer, becoming mayor of the town, now wealthy with the new name of Monsieur Madeleine. He is the owner of a factory where a young woman Fantine works, where everybody picks on her, and believes she is nothing but a street whore. They find out she is giving her money to two innkeepers who are taking care of her daughter, Cosette, who she had to give up after her husband left them. They conclude that she is really nothing but a prostitute, which is untrue, but they convince the Foreman of the factory, and she's fired. Now, left with nothing to live for besides her daughter, she becomes a prostitute. She ends up dying of an unknown illness, leaving JVJ to take care of Cosette himself. Javert finds out that JVJ is the convict who he had been searching for for many years at this point after JVJ confesses at a trial where a different, innocent man was about to be sentenced for what JVJ did. Talk about truthful teres.
Jean Valjean takes Cosette from the innkeepers who had been taking care of her, the Thénardiers. They didn't like Cosette one bit, they just wanted the money. Once JVJ had Cosette *After giving the Thénardiers an arm and a leg..No, not literally.*, he took her to his home. After this, ten years later, we are introduced to more main characters. Gavroche(son of the Thénardiers, but they made him leave their home) introduces himself and other characters such as Eponine (daughter of the Thénardiers), Enjolras (Leader of his group of student revolutionaries), and Marius (Student revolutionary).
The student revolutionaries are about to fight for independence, all young, handsome, and ready. *My hands are cramping...Things are about to get more brief* Marius has fallen in love with Cosette, Eponine is hopelessly in love with Marius, and everything is starting to build up. Finally, everything extreme in the musical is about to happen in one more day. Thus the gathering of 'One Day More'. JVJ and Cosette are about to go over seas, because JVJ believes that Javert is after him again. After this, there is an intermission in the musical. The student revolutionaries come out, ready to fight. Eponine is now lost in darkness, and sings about her love for Marius in 'On My Own'. She wants to see him, so after she gives JVJ the letter from Marius that was to Cosette, she goes back to the barricade. She is shot, and dies in Marius's arms, where she tells him how much she loved him. The Second Attack then occurs, where Gavroche dies when he is trying to gather ammunition from the other side of the barricade. After this, JVJ prays for Marius to live in 'Bring Him Home', and then 'The Final Battle' occurs. All of the revolutionaries die, except for JVJ *He volunteered at the barricades* and Marius. Javert had previously been set free by JVJ after he had gone to volunteer as a spy, and Gavroche rats him out. After JVJ gets Marius who had been wounded, he goes through the sewers, and bumps into Javert. Javert and JVJ argue, and JVJ proves himself right, causing Javert to let him go, and ends up killing himself by jumping off of a bridge.
Marius grieves over his lost friends and JVJ tells Marius his true identity but then his days get brighter once he marries Cosette. Once they are married, JVJ is dying, and in his last moments, Cosette and Marius grieve, and all of the cast join in for the 'Do You Hear the People Sing' reprise in the end.
And that's about it! Hope you know a good deal of Les Miz now.
